Mr. Alexander Pizarro is one of two recipients of this year’s President S.T.A.R. Award. This award celebrates full-time and part-time employees who have excelled in the areas of service, teamwork, action, and results.
A first-generation college graduate with a love for learning, Mr. Pizarro holds an A.S. in Criminal Justice and a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Crime and Society and a minor in Psychology from John Jay College. He has expanded this knowledge with a Dispute Resolution Certificate. In addition, he holds an M.A. in Public Administration, also from John Jay College.
Mr. Pizarro joined the School of Education team in 2012. He started as special education program assistant and later became the administrative assistant to three department chairs. Currently, he is an office assistant in the School of Education Office of Admissions and Student Services, directed by Stacia Pusey, Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services. He describes his work as that of a coach who supports students with advising, enrollment, finding resources, and making connections across the College. He also supports prospective undergraduate and graduate students who want to apply for the TEACH Grant.
Mr. Pizarro considers it an honor and a privilege to have had the opportunity to work with great colleagues in the School of Education and in other administrative offices and departments. He says that, working as one team, he has witnessed students achieve their goals of not only graduating, but also exceling in their careers as educators. “My goal has always been to uplift and enrich the positions that I have held,” he says. “I am always there to try and help students as best as I can so they can truly know and feel that in the School of Education there is an office that has only their best interest at heart.”
When asked what his future professional goals are, Mr. Pizarro said that he wishes to continue working for the retention and persistence of students. “I am looking forward to new challenges and exploring and finding creative ways to assist students in their journeys from admissions to graduation and from graduation to the classroom.”
The School of Education deeply appreciates your service and congratulates you!
