ANNOUNCEMENTS AND DEADLINES
STUDENT TEACHING, INTENT TO STUDENT TEACH/PRACTICUM APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING 2022
Note: Due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, all deadlines noted below are subject to change. Feel free to email Dr. Billig ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) if you have questions.
Please be aware that our Combined Student Teaching/Intent to Student Teach/Practicum application for the Spring 2022 semester will be available in the Office of Clinical Practice (OCP – North Academic Center, Room 6/207A) as of Monday, September 13th. You can email our Student Teacher Manager, Noris Rodriguez for an application ( email@example.com ). [Note: Please speak with the OCP staff if you have any questions about your specific program.]
COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION
All applicants must meet with their respective Program Advisor in order to complete the application before bringing it to the OCP. You must submit your completed application to the OCP no later than Friday, November 19, 2021. Make certain that you schedule your meeting with Dr. Bruce M. Billig, the Director of the Office of Clinical Practice, after submitting your completed application. [Note: The OCP staff will advise you regarding your meeting with Dr. Billig.]
Note: The SOE faculty had recently voted to not require the passing of a NYS test in order to student teach in Spring 2022.
SCHEDULING YOUR MEETING WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFE - DR. BRUCE BILLIG
When you submit your completed application to the OCP, please schedule a meeting with Dr. Billig before December 13, 2021. This meeting is extremely important because you will have an opportunity to have your questions and/or concerns addressed. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU SCHEDULE YOUR MEETING WITH DR. BILLIG IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE "LAST MINUTE".
Make certain that you have satisfied all application conditions (e.g., course grades, required number of fieldwork hours, passed one of the required NYSED tests, approval from your Program Advisor and meet with Dr. Billig before December 13, 2021. [Note: If you miss this deadline, you may need to postpone your Student Teaching/Practicum until the Fall 2022 semester.]
OTHER DATES TO REMEMBER
You are required to attend our Student Teaching Orientation Workshop for the Spring 2022 semester in early January 2022 (date TBA) in North Academic Center Room 4/220B from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Please be available on (date TBA) to meet with your cooperating teacher at your school site. The first day of Student Teaching is in February 2022 (date TBA). Student teaching ends in May 2022.
