Mónica Martell

Mónica Martell is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Secondary Spanish Education program. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from The City College of New York and an M.S.Ed. in adolescent Spanish education and Spanish from Hunter College.

Ms. Martell’s career as an educator began in 1992. She worked as a teacher aid at Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx, and later, after completing her undergraduate degree, she worked as a Spanish teacher at Harry S. Truman High School, also in the Bronx. She has worked at the Somers Central School District since 2010, where she has served as high school Spanish teacher, curriculum and department leader, teaching coach, and mentor for new teachers.

Ms. Martell started working at CCNY in 2010. She says that “seeing the development of individuals who are realizing their dreams of becoming educators is amazing. It is in this position that I get to share my experiences, guidance, and knowledge in education, while also learning from new teachers-in-training. I get to see through fresh eyes what drew me to education and fall in love with my vocation every semester.”

In order to improve her craft, Ms. Martell participates in professional conferences and gives presentations to educators every year. She also takes graduate courses to learn and improve her effectiveness in the classroom. “I truly believe that teachers must be life-long learners so we could stay connected to our learners.”
