Noris RodriguezNoris Rodríguez is the Assistant to the Director of the School of Education Office of Clinical Practice. She started working at The City College of New York in the Office of Faculty and Staff Relations in 2002. Then, in 2006, she transferred to the School of Education. Before becoming Assistant to the Director, she served as Fieldwork Coordinator. Her duties include, among others, overseeing the student teaching application process, placing an average of 200 student teachers (per term) in New York City public schools, recruiting field supervisors, and co-organizing the student teaching orientation sessions.

Ms. Rodríguez is an example of determination and commitment to success. A native of the Dominican Republic, she migrated to the United States at the age of 17. She attended Flushing High School, where she started taking English as Second Language (ESL) classes in the 10th grade. Three years later, she was admitted to CCNY. She had to take additional ESL classes, and at that time she also had to help her mother in her food business to support her family and pay for her education. Despite these challenges, she completed her B.A. in Sociology in 1998. Since then, she has earned an M.A. in Spanish and an M.S.Ed. in Secondary Spanish Education, and she is only a few courses away from completing the TESOL Professional Certification program.

The service that Ms. Rodríguez provides to our students is invaluable. She says, “It is very gratifying to be part of our students’ student teaching experience. I take pride in finding quality placements for them and contributing to their development as future teachers. Also, since I work closely with school personnel, I have direct access to information about school openings, so I help our students find their first jobs.” As she points out, her position allows her to contribute to the CCNY School of Education’s mission of developing knowledgeable, reflective, and caring educators.

Ms. Rodríguez is a lifelong learner. She plans to seek more opportunities to grow as a leader and be a more effective administrator.
