The meeting was called to order at 10:02am.

COO Gurba shared some information about the strategic plan and the master plan. He started by mentioning that it  has been a few decades since the college had a master plan.

The Master Plan has to be holistic, comprehensive and instructional. He highlighted that it has to align with the strategic plan and that it should reflect the campus identity and reinforce community. He added that this also served as a roadmap for capital allocation. He also recommended checking in from time to time to ensure that we are on the right course. The Master Plan should have an implementation plan, which is the roadmap that translates the plan into action, and measuring and monitoring components.

He explained that the process includes development of strategic plan and defining governance, needs analysis and takes into consideration our guiding principles and objectives. He added that the time frame for this will be around 18-24 months and will involve a lot of coordination and reviews.

On the strategic plan, Provost Liss shared plans of creating a steering group to review the current strategic plan, create a short report on what we have achieved and decide on proposed sets of strategic priorities moving forward. He added that he will work on the membership and will reach out to deans for this process.

The Provost shared the timeline for this process as follows:

  1. August 2023- creation of steering group
  2. September 2023- review of current strategic plan
  3. Fall 2023- strategic priority subgroups
  4. Spring 2024- each subgroup meetings
  5. Summer 2024- writing the strategic plan
  6. Fall 2024- draft should be ready for approval

He ended by reminding the group that our strategic plan has to be aligned with CUNY's strategic plan.

VP Lloyd shared the updated schedules for orientation. Dean Couzis suggested updating the title of the President/Provost’s welcome message to “Thriving at CCNY”.  There was a brief discussion that focused on the Gateway orientation (for undeclared students). The group requested for the fall information sessions to be updated with location, scheduling and to have library information sessions included as well. VP Lloyd encouraged everyone who has any more suggestions on the fall sessions to coordinate with her team.

On Gateway, ACE and Retention, VP Lloyd shared that the Academic Success Center is a merger of the Gateway Academic Center (GAC) and the new CCNY ACE program. She updated the group that the ASC Director recently joined her team and that she will keep Cabinet members posted on staffing updates.

On retention and student success, President Boudreau reminded the group about the EMSI Alumni Outcomes study which documents 27,000 City College graduates, majors and career trajectory. He shared that this study is set to be refreshed this year. VP Lloyd will reshare the EMSI study to Deans and ED Williams will resend retention data to the group. For the next meeting, the workshop portion will be spent looking at curriculum and what data tells us about retention issues.

Dean Mercado gave a presentation on Study Abroad and encouraged the deans to assign a point person for Study Abroad for each of their schools. .

Associate Provost Valdes gave a presentation on her role on the campus and shared partnerships and projects that the Office of Community Engagement has.
