Leslie Jimenez-Stancil is an educator, multidisciplinary artist, and mother based in New York City. She has extensive experience teaching visual arts to students ranging from pre-school age to senior citizens, and currently teaches at Sugar Hill Museum Preschool. Jimenez-Stancil has earned degrees in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design in New York City and Altos de Chavón School of Design in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Her latest research project, Humble Heroes: Dominican Childcare Workers, Women Supporting Women and Their Multidimensional Contribution to Society documents the role of Dominican women in the family day care workforce, capturing how their labor provides an essential network of support for working mothers in NYC. Jimenez-Stancil’s methods will include the use of interviews and archival sources to shine a light on the contributions of Dominican childcare workers to early childhood education, the childcare industry, and especially to Dominican families. In the end, this work highlights and pays homage to the wide-ranging contributions of Dominican women to U.S. society, a subject that is intrinsic to CUNY DSI’s vision.
