Requirements

In addition to completing the program specific coursework and clinical practice requirements, all students need to pass the Teacher Performance Portfolio (TPP) as well as the Target Professional Dispositions.

Teacher Performance Portfolio (TPP)

The Teacher Performance Portfolio is critical in your career in the School of Education and has been approved by the New York State Education Department as a certification requirement for candidate's first initial teaching certificate.  Please note that in order to be recommended for certification, you must receive a 2.7 or higher as your cumulative average score on each task.

The TPP consists of three tasks, which are often completed in different courses.

The tasks create learning opportunities for you to experience, and be assessed on, the foundational practices of an educator:

  • Planning
  • Teaching
  • Assessing
  • Reflecting

TPP 1 – Planning and Teaching

For this task, you plan lessons and teach them in a clinical setting. City College faculty support and assess you by reviewing your lesson plans as well as by observing you teach.

TPP 2 – Assessing Student Learning

For this task, you assess a class set of student work, analyze the evidence of student learning, present the feedback you would give to select focus students, and identify what you would do next in your teaching, given what you learned from the student work.

TPP 3 – Reflecting and Taking Action for Professional Growth

For this task, you reflect on the teaching you are doing in a clinical placement and identify ways in which you want to grow.  You then set growth goals, take action steps to reach     them, and reflect on your progress in meeting your goals.
