Dear Members of the City College Community,
I am deeply saddened to report that Dr. David Rumschitzki, of the Chemical Engineering Department, has passed away. He spent his last minutes as he spent much of the past 40 years—in his office, among friends, working to advance the educational careers of students and to develop his own profoundly innovative engineered contributions to human progress.
David came to CCNY in 1983 and so leaves our community as one of its longest serving and most engaged members. His research and teaching career led him to work on questions… Read More »
Dear City College Campus Community,
Interested in an escape from the city and surrounding yourself with beautiful Fall foliage just a half hour away from NYC? Please join CCNY’s Outdoors Project for a hike in Palisades Interstate Park on Saturday, November 11th.
This hike will feature several cliff top views, some rock scrambling and a walk along the shore of the Hudson River. At the halfway point, we will stop at the Women’s Federation Monument, which is a trailside monument on the clifftop of Alpine, NJ, dedicated in 1929 to honor the role that the New Jersey State Federation… Read More »

Dear Campus Community,
The events of this past weekend marked a sharp and brutal escalation in a conflict that has simmered between Israel and Palestinians for decades. The attack on Israel by Hamas, by primarily targeting civilian Israeli populations, represents an unprecedented and intolerable escalation that we condemn.
As news reaches us from the region I hope that we can be united in mourning the civilian toll this war will take, wherever our political sympathies lie.
It is not a college administration’s foremost charge to resolve international conflict, but rather to… Read More »
Dear Campus Community,
Earlier this morning, Campus Public Safety received an anonymous phone call, alerting the team to a possible bomb threat, location unspecified. Emergency preparedness response teams were immediately notified, including NYPD, and a canvas of each building was conducted.
NYPD is currently on campus as part of this investigation, but at this time, no credible threat to our campus community has been verified.
Please note that in the case of an active emergency, or a more credible threat is identified, a CUNY Alert will be issued (received as a… Read More »
Dear Campus Community,
Just this week, multiple college campuses have been attacked with crippling ransomware. Please be extra cautious on any requests to provide personal or protected information to all requestors – particularly if it seems odd that you would be asked for information from the sender. Use back channels, like calling the person with a known number, to verify a request for personal or protected information. Also, be on alert for text messages coming from colleagues, including senior leadership. If you do not recognize the cellphone number… Read More »
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
With the start of the semester behind us, I think it would be beneficial to gather to discuss where the college currently stands in relation to some looming challenges.
I am inviting you all to a town hall in MR3 to talk about some of these matters, to gather your input, and to talk about some of our plans.
The faculty/staff town hall will take place on Thursday, October 19th at 12:30 PM. I’ve scheduled a separate student town hall to take place on Thursday, November 2 at 12:30 PM. Each event will be both in person and… Read More »
