Faculty members have the right to:
1. Hold all students to the same essential course requirements and behavioral expectations
2. Receive and review accommodation letters through CUNY Accommodate, and must only implement the accommodations found on the accommodation letter.
3. Give input into the means of implementing accommodations approved by the Access/Ability Center.
4. Contact the AccessAbility Center if they believe an approved accommodation constitutes a fundamental alteration of the class objectives or program's technical standards. Note: this means you must contact the office to engage in an interactive process, and does not allow you to deny the accommodation outright.
Faculty members have the responsibility to:
1. Provide approved accommodations specific to the course according to the Accommodation letter.
2. Inform accompanying Teaching Assistants or other relevant teaching professionals instructing all or part of their course of the approved accommodations of students within the class.
3. Discuss with the Access/Ability Center any concerns related to approved accommodations, policy modifications, auxiliary aids and services, or any other arrangements requested by the student. If there is a concern an approved accommodation constitutes a fundamental alteration of course objectives or program technical standards, faculty must reach out to the Access/Ability Center immediately.
4. Refer any student requesting accommodations to the Access/Ability Center, or to CUNY Accommodate.
5. Maintain and assure the privacy of students with disabilities. Conversations about accommodations should be held privately, and faculty should refrain from making direct reference to a student's disability in class or in front of others.
