Recording of Lectures
Students may be approved for the accommodation for Recording Lectures. Depending on the student's disability-related limitations, recording of lectures serves to fill in the gaps of the notes they are taking in class.
Students can audio record in-class lectures and discussions if there is a chance they will be evaluation on the material. This accommodation necessitates the use of a computer, phone, audio recording device, Smart Pen, or other assistive technology connected to audio recording. Any discussion that includes sensitive or personal material does not need to be recorded if that material will not be evaluated in connection to a grade in the class. This accommodation supersedes class policies regarding audio recording in most cases. If an instructor feels that audio recording would constitute a fundamental alteration of their course outcomes or learning objectives, they should reach out to disabilityservices@ccny.cuny.edu , or the student's Access Specialist to discuss further.
Students who record classes as an accommodation agree to the following:
- I will use these recordings only for my personal academic use during this course.
- I understand that faculty members' may have concerns regarding their intellectual property and I will not infringe on this in any way.
- I understand that the faculty member as well as other students in the class have privacy rights that I will not violate by using the recordings for any reason other than my own personal study.
- I agree that I will not release, digitally upload, broadcast, transcribe, or otherwise share all or any part of these recordings. I will not profit financially, nor allow others to benefit either personally or financially from my lecture recordings.
- At the conclusion of the semester, I agree to delete all audio recordings.
- I will adhere to the guidelines set forth in CCNY's conduct policy, Academic Integrity Policy, and understand that failure to do so may impact the use of this accommodation.
Copies of Class Notes/Class Notes Provided
Students who wish to request a note-taker in their classes who are approved for this as an accommodation submit the requests via the Note Taker Request Form (sign into your CCNY CityMail in order to access the form). The purpose of this accommodation is to ensure you are receiving additional notes from your classes. AAC encourages students to continue to take your own notes and incorporate the supplemental notes to support your learning .These notes are for your personal use only and may not be distributed to other studnets.
You will receive your notes from the Notetaking email regularly. You will be informed when a notetaker has been recruited unless you have otherwise requested to not be informed or have agreed directly with your note taker to receive the notes directly (not common). If you have concerns about your notetaker or how to access notes, contact your Access Specialist immediately.
Regular class attendance remains necessary to best support your academic journey at City College. A notetaking accommodation is not a substitute for class attendance.
Notetaking services are confidential and are shared only with your instructor via your Accommodation Letter. Your identity, unless you direct otherwise, is not shared with your notetaker without your permission.
Students who request a notetaker agree to the following:
- This form is to request a note taker in a specific class. I will need to submit a request for each class.
- I will be notified via my CityMail student email when a note-taker has been found
- I will communicate any issues to the Access/Ablity Center regarding any issues with the note-taker
- Notes are provided for my personal use only and will not be shared with others
- If I drop or withdraw from the course, I will notify the Access/Ability Center immediately
- I acknowledge that notes are not a substitute for being absent from class.
