The Asociaciones Dominicanas Collection
Historical Note: Asociaciones Dominicanas, Inc. (ADI) was a tax-exempt non profit community organization incorporated in 1975 under Section 402 of the New York State Non-Profit Corporation Law, operating under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is one of the first Dominican organizations established in New York City to address the needs of Dominican immigrants, to encourage free exchange of ideas; social activities and good-fellowship between Dominican residents and the community at large; and to inform the New York Dominican community for the betterment of themselves and society at large. Although ADI original purpose was to serve the New York Dominican community exclusively, the organization evolved into a citywide community organization which provided human and educational services to city residents. Its latest mission was to address the human, educational, immigration, and employment needs of residents of Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, adjacent areas, and other citywide communities in need of such services.
Scope and Contents Note: The collection contains the organization’s Certificate of Incorporation, correspondence, case files, photographs, videos, newspaper clippings, minutes of meetings, and financial records generated by Asociaciones Dominicanas, Inc. The collection documents the programs, events and activities of the organization as well as its interactions with other organizations, civic leader, and government agencies interested in the welfare of the New York Dominican community.
