The Mary Ely Grateraux Collection, 1983-2010

Biographical Note:  Mary Ely Grateraux is a Dominican independent researcher and community activist. She worked as the Mediation Program Director of the Washington Heights-Inwood Coalition in New York City.       

Scope and Content Note: The Mary Ely Grateraux collection consists of articles, interviews in audiocassette tapes, annotated bibliographies, conferences contact lists, correspondence, Dominican research material, emails, evaluations flyers, and handwritten notes. In addition to these, the collection includes invitations, magazines, manuscripts, minutes of meetings, newsletters, newspapers, photographs, postcards, poems, press releases, and event programs produced and collected by Mary Ely Gratereaux, during her extensive career. It also contains a large variety of photographs depicting street vendors, merchants, businesses, parades, demonstrations and other community activities in Washington Heights and other Dominican neighborhoods in the city. Furthermore, there is a large number of correspondences relating to controversial issues between community leaders and Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Manhattan, about holding mass in Spanish.
