Special Approvals Now Needed

1)Approval to register if CUNY First gives incorrect error message

If CUNY First is preventing you from registering for a class that is open and for which you meet all of the pre-requisites, you will need to get special approval from Prof. Wittig to get into the course. Please act immediately and email Prof. Wittig a screen capture of the CUNY First error message. Prof. Wittig will over-ride the error and give you permission to register for the class.

2)Approval to register if student has more than 120 credits
Students now need permission to register for classes if they have more than 120 credits. They were sent an email explaining this. The memo that gives them this permission is in the CE entryway in a yellow folder. Pick up the form, fill in your name and EmplID, and take the form to the registrar on or before your registration date.

3)Approval to register for an open class that the student is repeating for the 1st or 2nd time

CUNY First will block students from registering for a class that they have already taken.

Students with this error will need approval from Prof Wittig to register for the course. Once they have the approval form, they should take it to the registrar on or after their registration date so that the registrar can give them permission to register for the course.

4)Approval to register for an open class that the student is repeating for the 3rd or more time

The college recently changed their policy about how many times a student can retake a class. Effective immediately, students are not allowed to repeat a class more than twice, unless they have a compelling explanation for why they withdrew or didn't pass the class the prior attempt (severe sickness, a death in the family, etc.). In this new policy, withdrawals and fails are treated equally. Because this policy is new, the CE Department will grant approval to all students who need it for Fall 2014 registration. However, starting for Spring 2015 registration, we will be forced to implement it.

Students with this issue will need to get an approval form from Jasmine Gonzalez (ST 209). If the class is open, they should bring the approval form to Prof Wittig for approval, and then take the form to the registrar on or after your registration date to have them enroll you in the class. If the class is closed, they should hold onto the approval form until they have gotten an email from CUNY First saying they have been given permission to register for the class (See #5).

5)Permission to register for a class that is closed

If a student is attempting to register for CE 231 or CE 332 or any CE class is closed, the only way for the student to get into the class is to overtally on the CE website. The CE overtally can be found on the CE website under "Info for Students" / "Overtally approach". Details about how/when students will be placed into classes from the overtally can be found on the "Overtally approach" webpage. Please read this before coming to faculty with your questions. Note: We do try to accommodate all students.

Once a student has been allowed into the class from the overtally, they will get an automated message from CUNY First saying that they have been given permission to register themselves for the class. They will have 1 week to register themselves for the class. If they wait longer than that, their seat will be given away.

Once they get the automated message, they should try to register themselves. If they can't, it is likely because they need additional special approvals (see #1, 2 or 3).
