Certified Billing & Coding Specialist

Online Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)

175 HOURS

This new 175-hour synchronous online course includes the process of submitting and following up on claims with health insurance companies in order to receive payment for services rendered by a healthcare provider. Course is designed for anyone who has the desire to work as a Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist in any outpatient medical facility such as physicians' offices, clinics, outpatient hospital settings, and other related facilities.

According to the US Department of Labor outlook handbook, the employment of medical records and health information technicians is projected to grow 9 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as faster as the average for all occupations.

The demand for health services is expected to increase as the population ages. The median annual wage for medical records and health information technicians was $44,090 in May 2020.

About 34,300 openings for medical records and health information specialists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

Prerequisites:  Knowledge of medical terminology is recommended.
