Become a New York State Certified EMT

Are you ready to start your career in Emergency Medical Services? This EMT Original Course, conducted by Rescue Training International (a NYS-approved Course Sponsor) at City College of NY, gives you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed as a New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

In this comprehensive course, you will build the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to provide emergency care at the scene of an incident and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital. EMTs are trained to assess patient conditions and manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies in fast-paced environments. 

Students who successfully complete this program may obtain New York State EMT certification through the Division of State Emergency Medical Services and may also pursue National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification. Earning both credentials can expand professional opportunities and support EMS practice in New York and beyond.

Between 2016-2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the total number of EMTs and paramedic jobs will increase by 24% in New York.

Course Description

This course will prepare candidates to become NYS Department of Health Emergency Medical Technicians. Your tuition includes the following items: an EMT Course Text Book, CPR Course and textbook, an EMT-Student Uniform Shirt, and an EMT Equipment Package. The equipment package includes an Adult Blood Pressure Cuff, Stethoscope, Penlight, Pocket Face Mask, Oxygen Key, and EMT Shears. There are no additional costs or hidden fees.

Learning Format

This course is delivered in a hybrid format, combination of hands-on training and online lectures each week.

Students can choose to attend either the 10 AM or 6 PM session via Zoom.

Clinical Schedule

Option 1: Week Day

Tuesday & Thursday; in-person skills start November 3rd and ends December 17th, 6pm-10pm

Option 2: Weekends

Saturdays; in-person skills start September 12th and end December 17th, 9am-1pm

Enrollment Requirements

  • Students must have a High School Diploma, GED® or HSE Diploma
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to work legally in the U.S
