Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Spring 2026 semester!
I hope this message finds you and your families well. Whether you are returning to continue your studies or joining us for the first time this spring, it is a pleasure to welcome you to our community at the CCNY Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education (CCNY CWE).
This semester builds on a year of exciting growth for our Division. We are proud to celebrate the launch of the B.A. In Social Justice & Urban Life, as well as the approval of our fully online M.A. programs in Instructional Design and in International & Transcultural Education, recruitment is underway this semester. Notably, CCNY CWE remains the only division at City College with degrees approved for fully online delivery—an important milestone that reflects our commitment to access, innovation, and academic excellence.
We also continue to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our community. Our faculty have distinguished themselves through competitive grant awards, influential publications, and presentations at national and international conferences. Our students, in turn, have demonstrated exceptional dedication through their academic accomplishments, leadership, and service, earning prestigious honors and scholarships.
The past year was marked by significant divisional milestones, including the 10th International Conference on Historical Links between Spain and the Americas, the 12th edition of TAFFNY—our annual international film festival presented in collaboration with the Smithsonian and the Instituto Cervantes—and the launch of the inaugural FRAME FORWARD Student Video Competition, which highlighted the creativity and innovation of our students.
Please remember that you are not alone on this journey. Our advisors, faculty, and support services are here to guide you, and my door is always open.
I look forward to making the remainder of the 2025–2026 academic year a time of continued growth, innovation, and shared achievement.
With best wishes for a successful semester,
Dr. Juan Carlos Mercado
