What is DegreeWorks?

DegreeWorks is a degree progress and academic advising tools designed to operate through the web. There is a “What-If” feature that allows you to see how your course-work may be used should you consider changing your major.

DegreeWorks is designed to enhance the academic advisement process and is not intended to replace face-to-face academic advisement. DegreeWorks allows you to view the progress you are making toward your degree at anytime via the web.

How do I access DegreeWorks?

NOTE: Please use mozilla firefox or internet explorer while using DegreeWorks.

Three ways to access DegreeWorks:

  • DegreeWorks link in the CUNYfirst "Student Center" page

  • CCNY website "LOGIN" DegreeWorks link, see below.

How do I benefit from using DegreeWorks?

  • Determine what requirements you need to fulfill to complete your degree.

  • View individual course grades, cumulative grade-point average (GPA), and major average.

  • Determine which courses you have taken or transferred, and which ones count as electives.

  • View transfer credits, waivers, and exemptions applied toward degree.

  • See how your coursework can be applied toward another major, minor, certificate or major concentration using the ‘What If’ option.

  • Confirm your academic standing.

  • Estimate how many semesters it will take you to graduate.

  • Learn the requisites for courses by clicking on the course number

How do I read my DegreeWorks "Worksheet"?

The audit is designed in a logical hierarchy. The first section displays basic information such as your name, degree objective, major, etc. The following sections list the overall requirements to earn your degree, CUNY Skills Assessment Tests, major and perhaps concentration.

Additional Courses Taken, Non-Contributing Grades and Pending Permit Courses, and finally In-Progress courses are listed toward the bottom of the audit. Your Advisor or the Registrar’s Office can assist you with reading your audit.

Who is my Academic Advisor?

Advisors and department locations are listed at the following web address: https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/financialaid/list-liaison

Even though you are not assigned a specific Advisor, you may visit your Academic Division in order to seek advisement or guidance.

SEEK students must see their SEEK advisors in NA 5/226. Also note that The Gateway Academy, located in NA 1/220, provides academic services for students who have not yet decided upon, or been accepted into, a major field of study.

How is DegreeWorks "Worksheet" different from a Transcript?

DegreeWorks is not your academic transcript nor is it an official notification of completion of degree requirements. Changes made to your official academic record will take at least 24-48 hours to be reflected in your DegreeWorks report. This progress report does not supersede the College Catalog and/or academic policies.

Your transcript, however, is your official college record, and it must be requested from the Registrar’s Office. Go to the Transcript Request page to order a transcript online.

  • How do I order a transcript?
You can request a transcript by ordering online via the Transcript Request page on the Registrar's webpage.

  • How long does it take to receive a transcript after I have ordered it?
It takes about 5-7 business days.

  • How much does a transcript cost?
All transcripts are $7 each. There is no charge for transcripts sent to another CUNY institution.

Is my DegreeWorks audit correct?

Always consult with your advisor if you have any questions about your particular degree requirements. Your advisor will explain any difference between the audit and the advice you are receiving.

I’m thinking about changing my major, how is the “what-If” feature helpful?

Use the “What-If” feature by selecting your proposed degree, major and perhaps concentration. The requirements for your selection will appear and you will see how your course-work may be used in the program you are considering.

DGW What-If Tab

Note:

In order to officially change or declare a major, you must submit an "Online Major Request" to the Office of the Registrar, see blow:

iDeclare - Declaration of Plan, Sub-Plan and Minor

If I use the “What-If” feature does this mean that I have changed my major?

No. When you select a “What-If” major you are not changing your major but rather viewing how your credits would be used should you change your major.

Note:

If you would like to change your major you may initiate this process by completing an “Online Major Request” to the Office of the Registrar:

iDeclare - Declaration of Plan, Sub-Plan and Minor

My major is wrong, what should I do?

Complete an electronic Declaration of Plan, Sub-Plan and Minor form which is available from the Office of the Registrar webpage or by clicking on the link below:

iDeclare - Declaration of Plan, Sub-Plan and Minor

My advisor told me that a course I took would be waived/substituted for a requirement, why it doesn’t appear in my DegreeWorks?

Speak to your advisor and be sure that the official substitution/waiver course form has been properly completed, signed and submitted to the Office of the Registrar. Once this form is submitted, the change will be input into your record and then the course substitution will appear on your audit.

Is my DegreeWorks audit the same as my CCNY transcript?

  • How do I order a transcript?
You can request a transcript by ordering online via the Transcript Request page on the Registrar's webpage.

  • How long does it take to receive a transcript after I have ordered it?
It takes about 5-7 business days.

  • How much does a transcript cost?
All transcripts are $7 each. There is no charge for transcripts sent to another CUNY institution.

Where can I go to understand my degree Requirements?

Always consult with your academic advisor if you have any questions about your particular degree requirements.

Advisors and department locations are listed at the following web address: https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/financialaid/list-liaison

What does "Elective Classes Allowed" mean?

Students are allowed a different number of general electives depending on the amount of coursework completed, as well as the number of credits required by a student’s major, certificate or minor, to meet the total number of credits required for the Degree program. A student with an undeclared major will have a higher number of elective courses than a student who has declared a major or minor, and the elective classes allowed may change as majors are declared.

What does the "Elective Classes NOT Allowed" mean?

"Elective classes not allowed" may count towards the degree and total credit count.

However, any course that exceeds the number of credits for Elective Classes Allowed or do not apply to any requirement, will fall into this section. Students should pay attention to this area, since ‘In-Progress’ courses that appear in this section can affect financial aid eligibility.

For details, please visit advisors and department locations listed at the following web address: https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/financialaid/list-liaison

How long is it Before DegreeWorks will be updated?

Changes made to CUNYfirst typically take least 24-48 hours to be updated into DegreeWorks. These changes include changes to Majors and Minors, newly registered courses, grade changes, and changes to transfer credits.

How do I apply for graduation?

You may apply for graduation, by the stated deadline, via the following “Apply for Graduation” web site: /current/registrar/Applicaltion-for-Graduation

I have some questions about DegreeWorks, who can help me?

Write to us by pressing the help button, in the upper right hand corner of your audit, and then the link; “Report a DegreeWorks Problem”. We check our e-mail each day so we will respond to your request quickly and provide an accurate answer to your question.

What does the "Not Counted" section at the end of my DegreeWorks mean?

"Not Counted" are courses that will not be applied to your record and will be subtracted from your total credit count. These courses may be duplicate courses (if there are duplicates, the program will automatically select the one taken first), cross-listed with another course also on your record, or courses that exceed the maximum allowable transfer credit limit.

Always consult with your academic advisor if you have any questions about your particular degree requirements.
