A Policy regarding conflict of interest sets forth the general standards of conduct and the rules regarding hiring, employment, and contracting decisions and supervisory responsibility involving certain family members that apply to any individual who is, or at any time becomes, an officer, full-time or part-time employee, or post-doctoral associate at the University, or a student engaged in faculty-directed research at the University other than as part of his or her coursework, whether or not the student is paid for the engagement.  The Policy also sets forth specific obligations of covered individuals who are involved in research or similar educational activities at the University and the University's procedures for managing Conflicts of Interest that may arise in connection with those activities.  General issues of conflict of interest under Sections 1-3 should be referred to the Executive Counsel to the President, who also serves as the College's Ethics Officer.  The responsibility for administration of Section 4 of the policy is delegated to Professor Masahiro Kawaji in the department of mechanical engineering, the Conflict of Interest Officer.  CUNY Conflict of Interest Policy

The New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics through the Public Officers Law has established a zero tolerance policy regarding gifts of any value, from prohibited sources.  The law has changed; the $75.00 limit on gifts no longer applies.  Accordingly, as a CUNY employee you cannot solicit or accept gifts, of any value, either directly or indirectly, from any prohibited source, regardless of whether the gift was intended to influence or reward you.  A CUNY faculty employee who accepts a gift, in violation of these rules, could be subject to a civil penalty of up to $40,000 and be criminally charged with a Class A misdemeanor.  The Ethics Bulletin outlines you responsibilities and obligations related to this policy.  Ethics Bulletin
