On-Site Visits

Throughout the year, students take advantage of our New York City location by taking field trips to industry locations. Sometimes led by a professor’s and other times organized by one of our CCNY student clubs, these on-site visits give students real insight into the professional lives and mechanisms of the industry.

The CCNY AAF sponsors many tours throughout the year. Among it’s most popular is to Y&R headquarters in midtown. Last year, nearly 30 Ad PR students met North America CEO Jane Barrett and listened to a panel of six Y&R professionals, spearheaded by Dot Giannone, EVP, Director Account Management, and met CCNY alums currently working there in account management and creative.

The PRSSA City College Chapter also organized agency visits, most recently to Ruder Finn headquarters, East 57th Street, where 9 students heard from group heads of healthcare, corporate branding and social media. David Finn, founding partner, is a CCNY alum.

In 2011, JWT created a workshop just for Alicia Evans’ Social Media class. Students were treated to a field trip to JWT where several account executives shared case studies, social media tips, provided an inside look into the emerging media segment, and detailed the meaning of “social listening.” JWT, among America’s largest advertising agencies, also provided a tour of their headquarters on Lexington Avenue near Grand Central.

As part of our ongoing relationship with GroupM, they  often host Ad PR majors at their mid-town headquarters. While there,  Tim Cecere, Managing Partner, Chief Talent Officer and Director of Human Resources, speaks with students about the transition to the professional world, inspired them to take risks, and to hold themselves to a high professional standard. Last fall, a panel also featured CCNY Ad PR alums Stacey Ann Edwards and Ariel Hustoo, both of whom were hired by GroupM companies.
