The accelerated master's (4+1) option allows undergraduates to take master's courses, each satisfying a requirement of the undergraduate degree and of a future master's program. The option simplifies later admission to the master's program, and makes its later completion quicker and cheaper.
Degrees: BE(ESE) / MS(ESE)
Admissions requirements:
- ESE major
- GPA of at least 3.2 over all engineering courses toward the B.E. (“ESE GPA”).
- 60 credits of unique core courses from the B.E. program taken at CCNY, completed by the start of the first semester in the option
- Two recommendation letters
- Personal statement
Maximum transferable graduate courses (B grade or higher):
4 courses
To stay in the 4+1 option:
- Maintain an ESE GPA of at least 3.1.
- Earn a grade of at least B in every course intended to satisfy both B.E. and M.S. requirements.
Students whose ESE GPA falls below 3.1 will be placed on academic probation and will have one semester to improve to the required minimum. Students who do not do so after one semester will be dismissed from the 4+1 option. For such a student, completed credits will count toward the B.E. degree, but will not be counted toward the M.S. degree.
