Portfolio Workshops

portfolio class

Building on a strong relationship with CCNY’s Ad PR program, Y&R specially designed an evening portfolio class for our students in 2009. The 10-week evening creative class was held at Young & Rubicam’s New York offices as a great opportunity for students who want to be art directors, copywriters or those who want to have a better understanding of how the creative department works. The brain child of Jennifer Novak, global creative recruiter and CUNY grad, the workshop relied on Y&R’s strong stable of global creative professionals to oversee students as they brainstormed advertising concepts, drafted rough tissues, developed a portfolio, and received critique each week.  Ad PR alum Sal Lombardo ‘07, who successfully transitioned to Y&R’s creative department, has been among those who has shared first-hand accounts about what it takes to make it as a creative.

Portfolio Students

In 2012, DDB offered a similar portfolio workshop exclusively for CCNY students. Using work developed at the “Nightshift,” CCNY student Paul Dedewo created a spec book that resulted in a MAIP internship in the creative department of Cleveland’s Marcus Thomas Advertising Agency.
