The Department of Chemical Engineering provides laboratories for the study of transport phenomena, unit operations, measurement and control of process variables and material structures and properties.

The Chemical Engineering Practices and Principles Laboratory provides incoming undergraduates an opportunity to explore chemical rate processes using LabView based reactors that allow for the control of flow, mixing, temperature, pH, and optical absorbance

In the Chemical Engineering Science Laboratory, measurements are made of the constants in the constitutive equations of transport phenomena as well as of thermodynamic properties of materials.

The Unit Operations Laboratories are devoted to the use of fully instrumented pilot plan size equipment to study design theory and industrial chemical technology practice with pumps and fluid friction units, two different types of heat exchangers, a distillation column, a packed absorption column, and a membrane air separation unit. Additionally, a continuous chemical reactor and drying, filtration and fluidized bed equipment are in use.

The distillation column is fully automated and is used for studies of the control of process variables during transients resulting from changes in steady state operating conditions.

The Particulate Science and the Materials Science Laboratories provide equipment for experiments on structure visualization, thermoanalytical techniques, mechanical properties, surface and particulate properties, and optical properties.
