An outgrowth of immense investment in scientific research initiated by the U.S. Government during World War II, the National Laboratories have served as the leading institutions for scientific innovation in the United States for more than seventy years. The Energy Department's 17 National Labs tackle the critical scientific challenges of our time -- from combating climate change to discovering the origins of our universe -- and possess unique instruments and facilities, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. They address large scale, complex research and development challenges with a multidisciplinary approach that places an emphasis on translating basic science to innovation.

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) administers a broad range of paid research opportunities available to people within STEM disciplines, including undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, postdocs, and university faculty members. Opportunities are offered at Department of Defense (DOD) laboratories and other federal agencies with research facilities located across the country. To learn more, come listen to Dr. Rachel Creager talk about ORISE and the next step that you can take in your research career.

Info Session Speaker:
Dr. Rachel Creager earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2013 where she worked on a bacterial signal transduction pathway. She then worked as a postdoc at Duke University in a computational biology lab characterizing the role of chromatin in cancer initiation and growth. Upon completion of her postdoc, Rachel began her career as a Research Scientist at the Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC), a small Department of Defense lab. In November 2018, she transitioned to ORISE, where she is a Section Manager for Department of Defense sponsors.
