Prof. Rose Wesson to lead CCNY Research as Interim Associate Provost for Research

Prof. Rosmarie Wesson

Rosemarie (Rose) Wesson, Associate Dean for Research in the Grove School of Engineering, and Professor of Chemical Engineering has been appointed as the Interim Associate Provost for Research, effective July 1, 2020.  Rose joined CCNY in 2015, and has been an active and engaged member of the Department of ChE even with the demands on her time and talents in the Dean’s office.  She received her BS degree from MIT and her PhD from the University of Michigan. Before coming to CCNY, Dean Wesson worked at Dow Chemical, at Louisiana State University, and most recently at the National Science Foundation Directorate for Engineering.

That wide experience has benefited CCNY, as Rose has energetically catalyzed research at the Grove School by providing strategic vision, guidance and coordination.  Rose built bridges throughout CUNY and with CCNY Offices and Divisions.  Through her efforts, we have closer ties with the Division of Science, ASRC and the Grants and Sponsored Research Office. Rose also built new partnerships with industry and a number of other universities.

Rose takes personnel development as a high priority. Upon arriving at CCNY, she led an effort to provide institutional resources to support junior faculty in the School of Engineering and across CUNY, and inaugurating the CUNY NSF CAREER Proposal Writing Bootcamp to assist tenure track faculty across CUNY develop competitive proposals.  The results have been outstanding: over 30% of the eligible engineering junior faculty received federally-funded early career awards, including both the prestigious NSF CAREER and DOE Early Career awards.

Rose has indicated that in her new role in the Provost’s office, she plans to increase the visibility of research at City College and looks forward to working with the CUNY Office of Research and other CUNY colleges to promote research collaborations throughout CUNY.
