English Class for Au Pairs

The English Language Institute at the City College of New York offers intensive English classes for au pairs who are looking to strengthen their English language skills and obtain educational credits to satisfy the requirements for the J-1 exchange visitor visa.

The ELI Intensive Morning Institute runs for 6 weeks: Monday-Thursday, 9:30am – 2:30pm. Each course yields 90 contact hours. Au pairs who successfully complete an intensive course can earn up to 6 credits towards their J-1 visa educational requirements.

About the English Language Institute

The English Language Institute provides intensive instruction and practice for non-native speakers who want to improve their English skills for academic and professional development. Our English program is designed for both international and local students who want to prepare for studying in an American University and for improving their job opportunities.

Are you an accredited program?

Yes! The City College of New York is an accredited university by The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

How many contact hours is each intensive English course?

Each course is 90 contact hours. Your Au Pair agency will determine how many academic credits you will receive based on the number of contact hours for each course you complete. It is for this reason that we recommend speaking with your agency representative before registering for the course.

Are your courses offered online or in-person?

All of our courses are offered in-person at the City College of New York main campus. 

What is the cost of the program?

The tuition cost for each intensive course session is $925*. 

*$25 non-refundable registration fee is included. 

Does the program issue a certificate after I complete a course?

Yes! Au Pairs who successfully complete one of our courses will receive a certificate indicating the course title, date of completion, and the number of contact hours completed. 

Are these classes only for Au Pairs?

No! Our classes are mixed with students from all over the world. Our program is comprised of international students, visiting professionals, diplomats, and members of the NYC community.
