What is verification?
Verification is a process where the school must ensure that the information reported on your FAFSA is accurate. During verification, ProVerifier+, on behalf of your school, will ask you to submit copies of documentation such as income tax transcripts, W-2 forms, and/or other income information that was reported on your FAFSA. ProVerify will review this information for accuracy and compare the documentation to the information you reported on your FAFSA. If data discrepancies are discovered, ProVerifier+ will automatically make corrections to your FAFSA on your behalf.
What is the status of my verification?
The current status of your verification is listed on your ProVerifier+ Student Dashboard (on the left side of your screen above the Main Menu). ProVerify has 6 verification status’: Created/Initialized- view your checklist items to ensure that all requested documents have been submitted. Once each document is completed, the status of the document will update to “Accepted”, “Awaiting Tax Transcript”, or “Pending Review”. Pending- your file is pending review by a financial aid processor. Most pending files are reviewed by a processor within 3-5 days. Working- your file is currently being reviewed by a financial aid processor. Hold- a financial aid processor is currently working on your file but it has been placed temporarily on hold while they collect additional information. Awaiting Corrections- corrections have been made to your FAFSA and ProVerifier+ is waiting for an updated copy of the application from the Department of Education. It generally takes 3-7 days for the Department of Education to process FAFSA corrections and send an updated application to the school. Verification Complete- verification has been completed and the financial aid office has been notified of your status.
Why was I selected for verification?
Verification is the process used to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA is accurate. The main reasons for being selected for verification include that you were chosen randomly, the information you submitted on the FAFSA was incomplete, or the data you provided was inconsistent. About 30% of students who complete the FAFSA each year are selected for verification. Once you are selected for verification, the U.S. Department of Education requires colleges to verify financial and other information on the FAFSA before they can award you financial aid.
How do I upload documents?
Your required verification documents are listed on your Student Dashboard under the ‘Documents’ tab. Documents that need to be uploaded to ProVerify will have a status of “Awaiting Upload”. To upload documents to ProVerify, click on the ‘Choose File’ button and select the document from your computer or device that you would like to upload, then press ‘Open’. You’ll see the name of the file you have selected next to the ‘Choose File’ button in the upload column. Press ‘Upload’ to complete the upload process. Once a document is successfully uploaded, your checklist will update to show the name of the file you uploaded along with the upload date and the name of the user who uploaded the document.
