Urban Pollinator Meadows

Currently, The Spitzer School, Sustainable CCNY, and the Office of Institutional Advancement, Communications & External Relations are prepping the north hillside of Spitzer to grow a pollinator meadow with the goal of beautifying the area, increasing biodiversity, and helping with the nearby Urban Gardens. To prep, with help from students, the hill side is undergoing solarization. A tarp is placed over the grass over the hot, summer months, baking underneath, killing the weeds root system. Essentially, we are trying to grow this meadow from scratch.

Tree Campus Program

City College recently planted several new trees (including fruit trees) on our South Campus. These efforts aim to beautify our campus, increase biodiversity, and help curb the urban heat island effect. Additionally, we are striving to become a Tree Campus through the Arbor Day Foundation.
