Animal Care Policies

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is the university body charged with the responsibility for reviewing the university's program for the humane care and use of animals. The IACUC provides oversight for all animals used for teaching and research purposes. The IACUC operates in accordance with federal and state polices set forth by the following:
1. The "Public health Service Policy on the Humane care and Use of Laboratory Animals" (PHS 1986)
2. "The Guide For the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (ILAR 1996)
3. The USDA Animal Welfare Act  (CFR 1985)

Institutional Policies
The IACUC is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies on all aspects of Animal Care and Use at the College. These policies have been developed in accordance with the guidelines of the governmental agencies that regulate institutional animal care and use programs. Failure to follow these policies can result in a protocol suspension or can prevent protocol  approval.
