Responsible Conduct of Research

Overview

Researchers at the City College of New York are committed to the high standards of ethics and accountability when planning, conducting and reporting research. This intense commitment to research integrity is the premise on which the College’s Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training program is built, in accordance with CUNY’s training policies. All City College faculty, postdoctoral scholars and students involved in research are required to complete RCR training, regardless of funding source.

Fulfilling Training Requirements

Training requirements vary depending on the type of CUNY affiliation:

  • FACULTY AND STAFF

    Required online training in RCR offered through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) within six weeks of initiating research activities.

  • POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLARS (TWO-STEP TRAINING REQUIREMENT)

    Required online training in RCR offered through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) must be completed within six weeks of initiating research activities. In-person Workshop offered yearly by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, and must be completed within 12 months of completing the on-line training.

    If necessary, the College's Associate Provost for Research may make an additional training option available to postdocs in lieu of the in-person Workshop.

  • GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATES STUDENTS

    Required online training in RCR offered through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) within six weeks of initiating research activities.

    On-line training certificates are valid for five years and must be updated by completing the Refresher Course modules offered through the CITI program.Forward ALL completed training certificates via email to the Research Compliance & Ethics office at researchcompliance@ccny.cuny.edu
